The Elite Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Not every story is told; so, we don't see all the experiences that the characters have. This small 28-episode series shows us what characters, specifically our two protagonists Frieren and Fern do after the big adventure ends. It was created by Kamehito Yamada to present the public with something completely different from the ordinary story we see in most fantasy animes.

The story starts at the end of the greatest journey ever; the quest that defeated the demon king and saved the world. Frieren and her human team went to a hilltop to see a very rare show of a meteor shower that happened after the battle. This is when they decide to take their own paths, and so they all go their own ways. Frieren goes to find more spells, and the humans go to live peaceful lives in their homes and shelters. The question left now, is what are they going to do? Now that the end is here, and their quest is done, what is the next step?

First, we must understand that Frieren is an elf that can live for thousands of years, compared to her human comrades who can live less than 100. So, when she chooses to "waste her time" searching for frivolous things, you have understood that she sees the world differently. So, whatever happens is in her time, which passes differently than everyone else, is judged in the span of many years, which humans can't afford.

Not too long after, her friend who's a priest adopts a child that turned out to be very capable in magic. In this priest's old age was the start of Fern’s (the adopted child) apprenticeship, under the care and mastery of Fern. It was incredible to see how such a girl could perform close to the level of Frieren with much less practice. Her ability and her endeavor now lead her into a path with Frieren, and their time and fates tied. This is the story that happened after Frieren’s Journey ended; how a simple human magician could change the mind of an elf that lives for millennia more. How a girl could teach a woman what her life should be about, and where to find that purpose within you.

It seems to be as if God put this anime in our presence as a gift. We were tired of seeing the same old story in fantasy animes, and these creators just had to make up a new order and story for us with a great budget to back it up. This quality is not found in most animes, so I'm proud to see that such unusual but great storylines can be brought up with great investments and hopes. I'm just glad to see that people recognize this anime for its hard work and peculiarity.

An anime such as this, that breaks the status and storyline repetition, and that brings us something fresh and new must be revered as one of the Elites. Truly, no more words can describe the perfection of this work.
