With new horizons set on the world of magic, creatures, and war. We see a team of rejects, of nobodies that are now called to protect the world from malicious dangers that lurk around. This series, created by Clive Bradley, had its second season just a couple of days ago. With great actors such as Edward Bluemel, Thuso Mbedu and Pixie Davies, this series has been a successful sequel to the great series of Castlevania.
The series starts off telling us the new characters’ background. Richter was a kid when his mother was murdered, and that trauma blocked him from accessing arcane abilities. Similar to Annette, who was born a slave but inherited great power. Her destiny is hard to get to, now that her family is dead and she neglects her ancestry, as a form of shielding herself from fear. But then we get to Maria, who seems to be the “sanest” one of them all. She never faltered in her decisions to do good. She always worked selflessly, but past mistakes, by the family she was kept from, now haunts her. People love to use her, and others want to protect her. So, it is sad to see such a kind and honorable soul, be seen as an object to dispose of or mistreat.
And so, when we finally understand the conflicts of our protagonists, and what they’re fighting for, we are presented with an anomaly. A being of immense power and immense greed that wants to rule the world. The Ka of the Egyptian god Sekhmet is inside the body of the queen of Vampires-Erzsebet. She wants to rule the world and have all her vampires everywhere. To do this she plans to create an army of night creatures and summon the eternal night. But the problem isn’t just that conclusion, since there are humans-mediums who want to do good but play for the wrong side. This is how Maria’s problems arise.
But even after all they tried to defeat her. The powers of a literal god can never rival against puny human-vampire magic. Season 1 ends with that and season 2 starts anew with a plan to defeat her by finding the other part of Sekhmet that Erzebet hasn’t obtained. It is up for these humans to use their powers, depend on each other, and learn from each other to be able to defeat the queen of vampires and save the earth from eternal darkness.
